Mechanical Designer 2

General Responsibilities: Prepares design drawings using electronic methods and maintains high quality
standards, maintains communication with team members and clients, and performs on‐site observations
as  needed.  Provides  project  layouts  and  contract  documents  in  accordance  with  company  design
standards and client requirements.  Assists in the development of all drawings and sketches required to
complete a project design in a particular discipline.  Communicates design issues and problems with the
project engineer or senior designers as needed.
Essential Functions:
  • Produce detailed layouts based on general guidelines as set by a senior technical staff member.
  • Ensures that all drawings are prepared with accuracy, neatness and speed.
  • Effectively communicates with team members, principal, other disciplines, and outside vendors to obtain necessary information for drawings.
  • Assists  in  the  development  of  design  approaches  and  concepts  on  assigned  projects  with assistance from senior technical staff when needed.
  • Assists the design team in the process of putting a set of drawings into an organized package.
  • Assists in the collection of data and/or field verification.
  • Performs fundamental system design layout and sizing for assigned work.
  • Assists with on‐site observations during construction and coordinates design requirements with contractors and equipment suppliers under the direction of senior technical staff.
  • Involved with the coordination of the design with other disciplines.
  • Learns to prepare shop drawings, records changes, and keeps all disciplines informed of details and schedules.
  • May assist in the studies and selection of equipment to fit the project design.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A two‐year technical degree in an applicable discipline plus three years practical experience, or
    five years applicable experience.
 
Physical Demands:
  • Frequent use of a computer for several hours at a time
  • Periodically climb over and under barriers
  • Lift and/or carry plans weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • May need to walk up to one mile and climb a ladder at least 10 feet.

Work Environment:
  • Indoors in normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, darkness/poor lighting, fumes or dust
  • May travel to or navigate construction sites, some of which may be at high altitudes or small spaces with dirt or dust particles
  • Some overnight travel as needed

Reports to: Senior Designer, Engineer, Sr. Engineer
 
Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly Employee
 
The Designer understands that this criteria is a minimal list to satisfactorily perform the essential functions
of the Designer 2 role. The Designer bears in mind that from time to time he/she may be asked to perform
a reasonable, ethical, moral task not outlined in the role.  The task may be of higher level position, lower
level position or completely unrelated, in order to provide best quality services of APG groups to display
the highest level of integrity to our clients.
