APG Electric, Inc. has been doing business in the Tampa Bay area since 1984.  However, our roots go back over a century to The Doan Electric Company of Cleveland, Ohio, founded in 1915 by A. P. Goulder, the APG of our name. Mr. Goulder began his business converting gas lighting to electric lighting and doing other small electrical repair work, before growing the company into one of the largest and most respected electrical contracting companies in Northeast Ohio. APG is a full-service electrical and systems contractor, providing complete design, construction, and maintenance services. To do this, we have assembled a diverse team of professionals to handle every aspect of the project - engineers, designers, estimators, project managers, administrative personnel, superintendents, programmers, systems technicians, and skilled electricians, all specializing in their respective fields. In addition, we continually upgrade our team through apprenticeship training and regular continuing education courses and seminars. The results of this team approach is a better planned, more efficiently designed, and much more cost-effective project.

Q: Based on this line from John Foley’s email: “Essentially, because APG had a strong pre-existing safety culture, they have not just survived, but are thriving in the current environment:”
Please describe APG's pre-existing safety culture. What made it stand out? How did it help APG in handling the effects of the pandemic?

A: Because Safety has always been extremely important to our company, we already had the personal and mechanisms in place to protect our employees during this pandemic. A plan of action was immediately implemented and enforced. Protocols were developed for the field and office. Our Action Plan is attached.

Q: What made you decide to focus on creating a strong safety culture?

A:
The well-being of our employees has always been our highest priority.

Q: How has the pandemic impacted your daily and long-term business?

A:
We have managed it well and were profitable despite the pandemic, business has grown and 2021 should be a very good year.

Q: How has the pandemic affected daily busines and routines at APG? (Of interest: Managers & adaptations to work rules under the pandemic).

A: It’s just thrown a few more obstacles our way, we adhere to all the latest CDC recommendations, plan accordingly and when necessary, pass the additional cost on to our customers in the bid process.

Q: Describe your business focus and key areas of growth

A:
Healthcare – Institutional - Commercial

Q: Describe APG’s business leadership in the I-4 corridor

A: We are the Premier Electrical Contractor in the I-4 Corridor.

Q: What does 2021 look like? - Are you expecting a return to pre-COVID normality, in terms of business and daily routines?

A: We see the year of 2021as another opportunity to grow and adapt to the new circumstances created by the pandemic.

Q: Safer Buildings Coalition: Why did you decide to become a member? What are you doing to gain from your membership?

A:
APG is always adapting, changing and growing. Membership give us another vessel to remain on the cutting edge of new technologies, techniques, education, changing statues and compliance.
Thank you for selecting APG as your February Spotlight.
