FIRE ALARM TECHNICIAN

Professional Skills:
  • At least five (5) years fire alarm industry experience and training with a High School diploma OR two (2) to three (3) years’ experience and specialized knowledge with an Associate's Degree.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and pass a drug test. Must be able to comply with company guide lines for driving a company vehicle.
  • Extensive knowledge of NFPA 72, NEC, Fire Alarm System Theory, and Industry Standards for Fire Alarm systems installation.
  • Installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of low voltage systems including fire alarm systems, communication systems, sound systems, security/access control and CCTV.
  • Exceptional ability to evaluate, diagnose, and troubleshoot systems equipment that requires servicing. Experience with a variety of system manufacturers.
  • Communicate systems performance to customer and maintain a 100% client satisfaction field status for our company. Strong customer service skills. Good verbal and written communications skills in English.
  • Communicate regularly with senior systems coordinator on all low voltage projects.
  • Skilled in the PC applications and in the use of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
  • Must be able to use hand-tools.
  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances including climbing ladders, scaffolds and high-lift equipment as well as working in ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
  • Must be able to differentiate types/colors of wire.
  • Experience with conduit bending, understanding of blue prints and wiring schematics and layout of system installations.
  • Ability to perform intermediate level calculations including: Battery, NAC panel and system standby.
  • Proven ability to not only lead but also teach other junior technicians and apprentices.
  • Ability to operate various types of test equipment including audibility and intelligibility test equipment.
  • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), Fire Alarm Systems, Level II and the ability to obtain Level III certification within one year of employment.

  • Troubleshooting experience with all major brands of low voltage systems
  • The desire to continually improve his/her knowledge of fire alarm system theory, adapt to changes and improvements to system architecture and possess the skill set to gain NICET Level III in fire alarm systems
