Tampa General Hospital’s future is taking shape, and APG is proud to play a pivotal role in bringing it to life as a key contractor on the new TGH Taneja Surgical, Neuroscience and Transplant Tower. This 13-story, 563,000-square-foot facility is designed to set a new standard for patient care. The $550 million state-of-the-art pavilion will feature 144 beds, 32 operating suites, and expanded intensive care unit capacity. Located in the heart of the Tampa Medical and Research District, it will seamlessly integrate advanced medical technology with world-class clinical care, reinforcing TGH’s leadership in high-acuity healthcare.

The project includes the new hospital tower, a two-story pedestrian bridge connected to the existing hospital, a medium-voltage central energy plant, and multiple specialized floors for surgical and patient care. As a design assist trade partner, our team has worked closely with the TGH design team and Gilbane Building Company for nearly two years, helping to develop budgets, refine documents, and ensure constructability. This collaborative approach drastically improved trade coordination while incorporating value-driven electrical and low voltage solutions.

With preconstruction now complete, we are excited to transition into the construction phase. One of the project’s most critical elements will be the use of prefabrication to overcome logistical challenges presented by the hospital’s premier location on Davis Islands. Limited on-site storage and constrained access require precise coordination to maintain the construction schedule. To support these efforts, we are opening our first dedicated prefabrication facility, where conduit racks, wall rough-in components, and other assemblies will be built off-site before being transported for installation. Our Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team has adopted cutting-edge software to generate detailed spooling drawings, ensuring seamless integration between design and fabrication.

In addition to providing our many in-house services, APG Technology will coordinate numerous subcontractor partners, including Rauland-Borg for Nurse Call, BDA Systems for DAS BDA, Everon for Security/Access Control, and BNS for DAS Cellular.

This transformative project will be our sixth new hospital build, further cementing our reputation as a leader in design assist healthcare construction. We look forward to delivering a best-in-class facility that will drive medical innovation and elevate patient care for all of Tampa Bay. Please stay tuned for future updates as we make progress on this historic expansion!
