PROJECT SPOTLIGHT: The Opal Sol Hotel

Rising along the Clearwater Beach shoreline, the newly completed Opal Sol Hotel is a stunning addition to the Gulf Coast horizon. This 15-story, 248-room luxury resort boasts spectacular waterfront views and top-tier amenities, including a pool deck terrace, nine-level parking garage, multiple restaurants, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and expansive event spaces. A pedestrian bridge connects the hotel to the nearby Opal Sands Resort, providing added convenience for guests.

The project launched before design documents were finalized, requiring our team to stay flexible and proactive throughout construction. With a tight deadline targeting Spring Break 2025, coordination was key. After recently completing the JW Marriott with the same Moss & Associates team, APG was trusted once again to deliver. We worked closely with Moss from the start, anticipating rough-ins for electrical, life safety, and technology systems while the design plans were still evolving.

In total, our team installed over 318,000 feet of raceways and 600,000 feet of wire to support the hotel’s electrical infrastructure. Our BIM group played an essential role in efficiently routing risers, laying out electrical rooms, and optimizing bus duct systems. APG Technology also delivered a turnkey system, including more than 300,000 feet of Cat-6 cable and 6,000 feet of fiber optic backbone across 18 IDF closets.

The project presented complex lighting challenges, with more than 5,000 feet of linear lighting, and a lighting control system that had to adapt to evolving fixture selections. Our team worked directly with manufacturers to stay ahead, roughing in cabling as specifications were being finalized.

Despite navigating a beachfront site with limited material storage, ongoing design changes, and even a hurricane setback, the project was completed on time. This achievement speaks to the coordination, resilience, and determination of the entire team.
