If a natural disaster strikes, Pinellas County wants to be ready. That was the purpose behind this 80,000 square foot operations center at the center of the county. Three generators and large fuel storage tanks provide backup power for the facility, which will be the emergency dispatch center during a disaster. Currently, the county's Traffic Control Center now resides in the facility, where a large wall of 18 wide-screen televisions monitors the cameras at key county intersections. An 11,000 square foot garage also houses emergency vehicles during storms in this building designed to withstand a Category 5 hurricane.
This project obtained LEED Silver certification.
